The Assault Rifle is a weapon in Just Cause 2.

For any other assault rifle, see Assault Rifle (disambiguation).

Appearance[]

The weapon is almost identical to the Colt M4A1, Heckler & Koch HK416, or the M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle. This weapon also features an IWI Galil-like skeleton stock, with a cheek rest on top of the stock. The weapon's front sight is folded down in the Black Market image. For more details, see the Trivia section.

Performance[]

The Assault Rifle is an average weapon and a jack of all trades, being more accurate than the Machine Gun at the cost of stopping power, yet still offers great firepower at midrange. In combat it fares moderately well, able to reliably suppress small groups of enemy infantry and can damage some chaos objects.

Initially, the weapon is unremarkable due to its somewhat low damage per shot and low ammo capacity. With upgrades it quickly picks up power and some much-needed benefits, such as being able to easily eliminate any enemies and sabotage destructable objects. It can even quickly shoot down UH-10 Chippewas with adequate ease, although this tends not to be thee best use of it.

As a common weapon in the Panau Militay's inventory, it is also highly sustainable, as ammunition is very available from fallen enemies.

Locations[]

Spawn points[]

  • Outside of two military bases, the only other ammunition crate for this weapon during free-roam is at the Reapers HQ. This is very convenient for the early game.
  • Many missions, such as A Just Cause, have this weapon in weapon crates. Unfortunately, all of those listed spawn only during the mission and not any time else.

Panau Military[]

Other users[]

Other[]

  • It's one of the first few weapons to be unlocked in the Black Market, where one with 180 rounds costs $55,000.

Trivia[]

  • It is not unusual for the front sight to be folded down for longer guns, such as MGs and various long-barreled rifles. Rarely is it done on shorter weapons like this one. It's done to prevent damage to the sight when the soldier has to rush through a forested area, or other obstacles. In the game the sight can not be folded up into the firing position, but conveniently Rico is an expert marksman.
  • One of the loading images shows a Panauan soldier in front of a Propaganda Trailer, holding what looks like an AK-47. That assault rifle does not actually make an appearance in the game itself.
  • The assault rifle could be considered as a successor to the two assault rifles from Just Cause (1), the Adler FF M-72 and the Haswell Gen2 Vindicator.
  • This weapon may well have been sold to the Panau Military during the reign of Papa Panay. After all, the Agency did sell them the Flak Cannons (as stated in Welcome to Panau). The Panau Military could have started mass-producing these after Pandak "Baby" Panay took leadership, as copies of real weapons are often mass-produced in other nations.
  • As a minor irony, Masayo Washio uses this weapon (and potentially some Imperial Japanese Military soldiers), even though this weapon is influenced by American assault rifle designs, of which the Japanese did not use.
    • Masayo Washio was born after World War II, and the Japanese military had been completely remade since then. Obviously many of their designs were influenced by American weapons, so it could conceivably be something of a Howa type 89-like rifle, similar enough to the Assault Rifle as is; given the game's general restriction, less DLC, of only having one each "pistol", "assault rifle", and so on, it's unlikely that the developers would have added another weapon just for Masayo Washio to use - never minding that he might not have been sent to Panau with the gun in the first place.
