Bavarium on a Plane is the nineteenth storyline mission in Just Cause 3.

Introduction[]

Mission briefing on the map: "Sheldon, uncharacteristically absent since Rico's accusations of treachery, surfaces to provide his old protégé with Di Ravello's plans to transport a devastating Bavarium warhead out of Medici. In an act of contrition, Sheldon offers his support."

Walkthrough[]

Rico arrives at a small junkyard on a hill near the unnamed airport near Porto Tridente and meets Tom who is waiting for him. Tom explains that he is "a rotten, backstabbin' old bastard", but that he still trusts people; in this case himself, Uncle Sam, and Rico, and that he would never betray Rico. Rico informs him that it was Zeno who was the mole, to which Tom appears affirmative. Soon Dimah arrives and says that Rosa sent her, though it soon becomes obvious Tom invited her. Tom then explains that Di Ravello is planning on transporting a bomb out of Medici and that they are going to intercept it.

After the cut-scene, the player gains control of Rico, and must drive the two others in a Rebellion-marked Weimaraner to the nearest airport.

Tom has provided some guns and a rocket launcher, but it is also possible to do this with other weapons, depending on how much ammunition you have. At least sometimes a CS110 Archangel is in the nearby weapons case; this can not only work well for the mission but also be quite useful after that if it is yet to be unlocked for Rebel drop.

According to Tom, these roads are so secret that they do not even show up on Agency maps, so the Medici Military will not be expecting them. Rico says that he has a bad feeling about the situation, to which Tom responds Rico should be looking at the bright side due to his infinite Parachute.

The airport gates are closed, but Rico says that roadblocks have not stopped him before. Tom tells Rico to drive into the U41 Ptakojester cargo plane that is about to take off. It's best to simply avoid any military units firing at the Weimaraner, or the plane might escape.

Once on the plane, Rico will tell Dimah to disarm the bomb and Tom to fly the plane. Tom punches a commando in the face and takes his assault rifle. Two guards will soon show up to confront Rico. Kill them and then walk to the door leading to the roof.

Di Ravello will call several times while Rico is on the plane roof, but there is no need to pay attention to him. The military keeps sending CS7 Thunderhawk fighters after the U41 Ptakojester in groups of 4. They approach from a distance behind the cargo plane and eventually fly next to it, conveniently in shooting and grappler range. The CS110 Archangel/Final Argument (if owned) can be easier to use, especially for more distant aircraft, because of their higher projectile velocity allowing them to score consistent hits which add up over time. The Thunderbird is a close second due to its low range, though it can destroy any vehicle in one attack and has a decent ammo pool. Just make sure not to accidentally hit the cargo plane itself. Having the 2x Special Ammo Gear Mod unlocked is preferable with such weapons.

Regardless of weapon choice, there are lots of fighters to destroy, so ammo conservation is key. Assault rifles and shotguns (at short range) can also take out the jets if special weapons aren't enough for the task. The Urga Vdova 89 machine gun is a good choice, able to lay down lots of fire that can take out the jets with relative ease. Grappling and pulling out the pilots can be an option to save on ammo, but keep an eye on the cargo plane's durability.

At some point, Di Ravello grows desperate and orders the fighters to fire missiles at the cargo plane while they are approaching. Soon Dimah and Sheldon tell Rico that the bomb cannot be disarmed and he must drive the bomb truck (an Urga Fura 570) off the plane during the next 50 seconds. Get back to the plane, enter the cargo hold, hop in, and then drive the truck out quickly, smashing the Weimaraner if it gets in the way. If the truck is still in the plane when the 30 second marker is reached, there will be a warning saying "Bomb will explode!" Once Rico drives out of the plane, Tom urges him to bail, and upon doing so a cut-scene plays where the truck sinks while the bomb goes off, creating a spectacular splash. Tom then speaks one of his most well-known lines from Just Cause 2 extractions - "And thanks for flyin' Air Sheldon, hehe!"

When Di Ravello calls, he states his plans, but then will be foiled Rico's actions. After his first 2 calls and if Rico did not steal one of the jets, he will come in over the PDA and say: "What are you doing?! Shoot him down! Kill them! Shoot him down!" and if Rico continues to destroy the jets while protecting the cargo plane, he'll call in one last time and lash out at the fighters over sea, stating: "You incompetent bastards, bring him down!"

The mission then cuts to Di Ravello's palace where he is quite angry and yelling at 3 men (2 Black Hand mercenaries and 1 army private). He demands to know how the "most elite private military force in the world" could have failed to kill "a weak-minded child with a rope and a squirrel suit". In fact, he is so angry that he beats up the army guy (possibly to death). After regaining his composure, he tells an unseen Commandante to "clean that up". He then orders the Black Hand to bust Zeno out of jail and kill Rosa.

After the cutscene, the mission ends and Rico spawns at Vista Fonte on the southern coast of Insula Striate.

Trivia[]

  • When Tom mentions Rico's "infinite parachute", he is either breaking the fourth wall or referring to how Rico's parachute is retractable, allowing it to be reused indefinitely.
  • The name of this mission is a direct reference to the 2006 film "Snakes on a Plane".
  • This mission has Tom repeat some quotes from Just Cause 2 as the Black Market dealer.
    • On the plane towards the end, he says "Ah hell, whom I tryin' to fool?" when Rico is about to enter the truck.
    • And when the cutscene rolls, Sheldon says "And thanks for flyin' Air Sheldon, hehe!"
  • When riding towards the plane, Rico says, "I have a bad feeling about this." This is possibly a reference to the popular Han Solo line from the 1977 movie "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope".
  • This is the only mission where the Urga Fura 570 is featured.
  • This is also the only mission in the base game where you interact with the U41 Ptakojester in some way.
  • This is the only time you will find soldiers on a U41 Ptakojester without the Bavarium Sea Heist DLC.
  • For balancing reasons, the jets fly very close to the cargo plane and sometimes overtake it instead of staying behind in an optimal attack position.
  • Sheldon punches a Medici Military commando and takes his CS Predator, but is never seen using it.
    • As of some patch, the Medici Military commando is mistakenly called as a member of the Black Hand.
  • Where the U41 Ptakojester, Sheldon and Dimah ended up immediately after the mission is a mystery, as Rico was obviously not on board the plane when he drove off.
    • However, since Dimah is seen in the next mission, Sheldon may have landed it somewhere in Medici at some point.
  • The ending sequence where Rico drives the truck and bails bears some slight resemblance to the atomic bombings of either Hiroshima and/or Nagasaki.
  • This mission features one of the largest explosions.
  • If the Urga Fura 570 is still in the plane when there are 30 seconds remaining, a warning will appear on screen saying "Bomb will explode!", telling you as Rico to quickly drive the vehicle out of the plane and dive out.
