The SV-1003 Raider is a vehicle in Just Cause 2.

Appearance[]

It appears to be partially based on the MOWAG Piranha 8x8. The SV-1003, unlike the SV-1007 Stonewall, comes in all three camouflage paint schemes: desert beige, jungle green, and snow white. There is, however, no urban black version. In the "Kicked to the Curb" challenge it spawns a unique red version.

Performance[]

The SV-1003 Raider, thanks to its immense weight and adequate engine power, can easily plow through lighter vehicles and loose obstacles while not losing too much momentum. Its handling, top speed and acceleration are below average, but remain acceptable for its size and weight. Its armor is strong enough to absorb at least one "standard" explosion and can withstand a substantial amount of small arms fire, with the operator only being vulnerable from behind (the small crack in the rear door). It can survive a fall from any height.

The Raider is armed with a passenger-operated minigun turret. It is strong enough to damage and quickly destroy all kinds of, but its effectiveness in combat is questionable as its recoil and muzzle flash can throw off the user's aim, not to mention they are much more vulnerable than the driver. For that reason it may be wiser to use personal weapons from the vehicle roof and enter the vehicle for occasional cover than to use the provided minigun.

To make a friendly NPC mount a turret, the player needs to drive the Raider to a friendly stronghold and pull a gunner from one of the armed vehicles parked near the main entrance. The gunner will attempt to mount the closest turret again. It should be noted that the NPC gunner creates a set of problems on its own. It will draw military attention from a far greater distance than the player alone would and, once in battle, he will be killed quickly, leaving the driver alone in a difficult situation.

Russian variant[]

During the Agency mission Three Kings, Alexander Mirkov invites Rico to "Taste the wrath of Mother Russia!". He calls an H-62 Quapaw, which drops a unique Raider with Russian camouflage paint onto the roof of the hotel to use against Rico.

This unique version differs by in the following:

  • It comes with a bigger frontal shield that is protects the user against all forms of small arms fire.
  • It can be somehow airlifted by the H-62 Quapaw. This implies either the Russian H-62 Quapaw produces more lift or the SV-1003 Raider is lighter.
  • It is immune to damage from certain types of explosions like Fragmentation Grenades. Nevertheless, it can be destroyed by several Triggered Explosives.

Locations[]

The Raider is a fairly common vehicle in free-roam, but rarely appears during missions and never in heat.

During free-roam[]

During missions[]

Trivia[]

  • As with many armored vehicles, it is erroneously referred to as a "tank", including by Mirkov, even though it is too lightly armed to qualify as one.
  • Despite its use as an armored personnel carrier, it is never seen in use against factions.
  • Sometimes the "Kicked to the Curb" race in Panau City can spawn two at a time due to a glitch.
  • Despite the one at Kem Gunung Gurun being green-marked, you will still obtain heat if the military see you driving around in it. This is probably a development oversight. This means that even though it is green-marked, it is still red-marked.
  • The Russian version is arguably the rarest vehicle in general due to its single mission appearance. See also: Rare vehicles.
