The Stirling STL-3 Octavio is a canceled fixed-wing aircraft in Just Cause (1).
Appearance[]
The main wings are at the back and the tail is at the front, as a canard. The aircraft has a single ducted fan engine, which is located at the rear center.
This plane seems to be inspired by the real Rutan Long-EZ, which looks about the same (no vertical rudders at the front and with a usual propeller at the back).
Location[]
The plane was cut from the game before release, despite featuring in two iconic pre-release screenshots.
The Prima guide gives a hint to its intended placement in the game, as it describes the Octavio as being "rarely seen on the ground" - it could therefore be assumed that the plane had no ground spawn points, and was only intended to be seen in flight. However, this never occurred either. It is unknown if this is due to a glitch or a deliberate removal.
Another scenario is that test groups or game designers determined that the plane looked too out of place in a place like San Esperito and the vehicle was disabled.
While this vehicle normally cannot be seen in Just Cause as a form of cut game content from Just Cause, it is possible to spawn this vehicle into the game through modifying.
Rediscovery[]
In July 2020, all the assets (textures, models, data) were found in the game files here, but there was still no known way to trigger the vehicle to spawn. Some time later, in May 2021, it was discovered that one could "trick" the game into spawning the plane via heavy drop, using external modification techniques. See here.
According to Prima Guide[]
The "Prima Official Game Guide" (paperback - September 26, 2006) wrote the following about the aircraft:
"Stirling's line of quality aircraft begins with the Octavio, a civilian aircraft that earns the highest handling rating for its capable banking and diving maneuverability. Because the aircraft is not meant for military duty, it is not equipped with weapons. Instead, the Octavio, which is rarely seen on the ground, is best used as a speedy commuter jet for getting from one side of San Esperito to the other in record time, or for achieving great altitude for breathtaking skydives."
